Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens announces the opening of Emmett Till & Mamie Till-Mobley: Let the World See, on view January 24 through April 12, 2026, in the Center Building, Gallery 3. This powerful exhibition examines the life and legacy of Emmett Till and his mother, Mamie Till-Mobley, whose courage and resolve helped galvanize the modern civil rights movement.
The exhibition tells the story of Emmett Till, a 14-year-old boy whose brutal murder in 1955 shocked the nation and exposed the violence of racial hatred. Through compelling images and firsthand narratives, Let the World See centers the extraordinary strength of Mamie Till-Mobley, who transformed unimaginable grief into action by insisting the world witness the truth of what happened to her son. Her decision became a catalyst for collective reckoning and change.
“Emmett Till’s story is not distant history—it continues to shape the world we live in,” says Sebastián Encina, Director of Curation & Exhibition at Minnetrista. “This exhibition asks visitors to sit with the reality of what happened, to understand the courage of Mamie Till-Mobley, and to recognize how memory, truth, and responsibility are deeply connected. Remembering is not passive work—it requires attention, care, and action.”
The exhibition invites visitors to reflect on the past, confront uncomfortable truths, and consider the role each of us plays in shaping a more just and compassionate future.
Created by the Emmett Till and Mamie Till-Mobley Institute, the Emmett Till Interpretive Center, the Till family, and The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. This project was made possible in part by The National Endowment for the Humanities: Democracy demands wisdom, the Maddox Foundation in Hernando, MS, The Institute for Museum and Library Services [MH-249226-OMS-21], and The Historic Preservation Fund administered by the National Park Service, Department of the Interior [15.904].
