Open Space: Art About the Land in Gallery 3 (2024)

Muncie, IN— Minnetrista Museum & Gardens invites visitors to experience the beauty of nature through the lens of art in Open Space: Art About the Land, on view November 8, 2025, through January 4, 2026, in Gallery 3 of the Center Building.

Since 2001, Open Space: Art About the Land has encouraged artists from across the state to draw inspiration from the land that surrounds us. From painters to sculptors and beyond, the exhibition showcases a diverse range of creative talent that highlights the beauty achieved when nature inspires art.

This year’s juror, Sachi Yanari-Rizzo, curator of prints and drawings at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, lent expertise in selecting and recognizing works that capture the spirit and beauty of Indiana’s natural environments.

Hosted jointly by Minnetrista Museum & Gardens and the Anderson Museum of Art, Open Space supports Red-tail Land Conservancy’s mission to protect wild lands in East Central Indiana—reflecting a shared commitment to artistic expression and environmental stewardship.

“Artists have always reflected the times they live in,” said Sebastián Encina, Director of Curation & Exhibition at Minnetrista. “With Open Space, that reflection turns toward the land itself—its beauty, its fragility, and our shared role in protecting it. This exhibition reminds us that creativity can also be an act of stewardship.”

Open Space: Art About the Land opens November 8, 2025, and runs through January 4, 2026. Open Space is presented in partnership with eKeeper Systems and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, Community Foundation of Randolph County, and the Indiana Arts Commission
