Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens is proud to present A Community Portrait: Winter, the final chapter in a three-year exhibition project celebrating the people who shape our region. On view from November 22, 2025, through February 1, 2026, in Gallery 1 of the Center Building, this winter installation features new photographs by acclaimed portrait photographer Tom Styrkowicz, inviting guests to experience the warmth, diversity, and resilience of our community during the coldest months of the year.
Returning for the holiday season with a fresh collection of images, A Community Portrait: Winter transforms our neighbors into art—highlighting authentic expressions of personality, identity, and connection. Through Styrkowicz’s thoughtful approach behind the lens, each portrait becomes both a reflection of an individual and a piece of the larger story that binds our community together.
Styrkowicz, widely recognized for his ability to capture honest human moments, turned his lens toward the people of Muncie and East Central Indiana. His portraits illuminate the everyday beauty found in shared spaces, chance meetings, and personal narratives—moments that reveal both individuality and the threads that connect us.
“A portrait photograph holds immense power,” says Sebastián Encina, Director of Curation & Exhibition at Minnetrista. “It can reveal a raw, unfiltered truth or a carefully crafted version of how someone wishes to be seen. Even in the most curated images, we catch glimpses of the true person beneath—and in that, we find a deeper connection to their story and, ultimately, to each other.”
A Community Portrait: Winter features a series of striking black and white portraits arranged to celebrate both individuality and shared identity. Guests may recognize friends, coworkers, neighbors—or even themselves. The exhibition invites visitors to pause, reflect, and appreciate the people who make this community vibrant, especially during a season defined by gathering, gratitude, and togetherness.
