Minnetrista Explores Local Stories in National History with America at 250: Reflections on Community

Muncie, IN— What does it mean to be an American? Minnetrista Museum & Gardens invites visitors to explore this question in America at 250: Reflections on Community, on view April 4 through October 25, 2026, in the Center Building’s Gallery 2.
As part of the nation’s 250th anniversary, this interactive exhibition centers on the people and perspectives that shape American identity today. Through dialogue, storytelling, and shared reflection, visitors are invited to consider their own experiences—and how individual voices come together to form a vibrant and evolving community.
“The United States of America is more than a geographic location. It is the culmination of millions of people who have come together to create a society that shares in the ideals of what it means to be an American,” said Sebastián Encina, Director of Curation & Exhibition at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. “On the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we look back at the people who helped make the country what it is today and consider the people who will carry on that legacy for the generations to come.”
Designed as a participatory experience, the gallery invites guests to share their own stories and perspectives, becoming part of a larger conversation about identity, belonging, and the future of community in America.
America at 250: Reflections on Community is included with regular admission and is free for Minnetrista members.
