“Any of the picnic benches are fantastic,” says Kirsten Novotny, Theatre & Events Manager. Placed in the shady lawns by Center Building’s parking lot, “they get plenty of fresh air, but not as much direct sunlight.” Relax at one of these picnicking classics with a bag of sweet or savory Pop Daddy Pretzels and a can of Boss Ross-inspired drink.
The Orchard Shop is near two favorite spots. Peggy Ulrich, Executive Assistant, loves the Courtyard in front of The Orchard Shop: “it’s peaceful, sunny, and the flowers and colors are always beautiful there.” Meanwhile, a favorite for Cari Cawthon, Retail Manager, is the area behind The Orchard Shop near the Orchard Garden, where you can watch plants grow and bees buzz. Bring some sweetness along with a cider slushy, and for some protein, munch on a bag of Nat’s Nuts.
Oakhurst Gardens is favorite for both Novotny and Horticulture Specialist Chris Allen, who enjoy the blooming flowers, thick foliage, and variety of wildlife. It’s the perfect area to let your feet and imagination wander. Before you go, pop into The Orchard Shop for a kids’ logbook to track the birds, bugs, and other natural elements you may see and to grab a refreshing can of flavored sparkling water from the fridge—and don’t forget your bug spray!
Lastly, if you have children with you, or if you’re a child at heart, the Backyard Garden is the perfect spot to explore. Snack on a refreshing ice cream treat as you walk along the Minnetrista Boulevard to the Backyard Garden, where you and your children can discover flowers, watch fish in the koi pond, and play among the fun scenery.
