Muncie, IN—Minnetrista Museum & Gardens, will present I Am: A Vision of Our Future, a powerful youth portrait exhibition celebrating identity, belonging, and possibility, on view April 11 through June 7, 2026, in the Indiana Room. Created in partnership with Muncie Juneteenth, the exhibition centers local children and invites the community to consider what becomes possible when young people are encouraged to imagine their futures without limits.

Through striking photographic portraits, I Am highlights youth who have envisioned themselves in the careers and roles they dream of—scientists, artists, leaders, caregivers, and more. Each image captures more than a future profession; it captures a moment of self-definition.

“When children are given the space to imagine who they can become, they begin to claim their place in the world,” said Dorica Watson, founder of Muncie Juneteenth and leader of the I Am Initiative. “These portraits affirm to our youth that they belong, that their dreams matter, and that they are already an important part of this community. At the same time, they remind all of us that our future is standing right in front of us—and it’s our responsibility to nurture it.”

Rooted in the belief that representation matters, I Am encourages youth to explore their aspirations through research, conversation, and reflection before stepping in front of the camera. The resulting portraits serve as declarations of identity—powerful reminders that seeing oneself reflected in the world is a critical step toward believing anything is possible.

I Am is both a celebration and a call to action,” said Lindsey Horan, President of Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. “These portraits ask us to think beyond what is and invest in what could be. Our future is already here, and it’s bold, brilliant, and full of promise.”

Exhibitions in the Indiana Room are free and open to the public during regular business hours. Please note that the space is occasionally reserved for private events and may be unavailable during those times.
