7 Faerie Events to Look Forward to During Faeries, Sprites, & Lights at Minnetrista
It’s that time of year again. Summer is here, the weather is warming up, and whimsical, faerie fun is beginning to sprout all over East Central Indiana. Here at Minnetrista, that can only mean one thing: faeries! Yes, in just a few short weeks, about one thousand faeries will fly into the sparkling wonderland known as Oakhurst Gardens for Faeries, Sprites, & Lights at Minnetrista.
In preparation for this, one of our biggest annual events, we’ve rounded up the top 7 faerie fun events to look forward to this year during Faeries, Sprites, & Lights.
Three Nights of Magical Fun
New this year, Minnetrista has added a third night of magical happenings to the faerie schedule. Faeries and sprites can enjoy crafts, music, dancing, and colorful lights in our sparkling wonderland from 5–9 p.m. during July 28–30.
Much like that of the human world, the Faerie Olympics will have an opening ceremony, which begins at 9 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. But unlike the human Olympics, humans are not allowed to see the Faerie Olympics. All magic must stay within the Oakhurst Gardens wonderland.
Faerie House Workshop
With the Faerie Olympics in town, the faeries are finding it difficult to find a place to stay. Before the opening ceremony kicks off, help create a special home for your faerie friends at the Faerie House Workshop. Using leaves, florals, berries, and flowers, you can design a faerie house for just $25. The workshop will be held on Saturday, July 23 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register by July 18 to reserve your spot.
Faerie Spas
Deep in the Bubble Meadow lies the Faerie Spas, a relaxing resort where faeries and friends can spend an afternoon getting pampered. With just a little bit of magic, young faeries can be transformed into a vibrant faerie by professional stylists of PJ’s College of Cosmetology. Enjoy custom hair, shimmering makeup, bright nail art, and fun from 1:30 to 3 p.m., or 2:30 to 4 p.m. [SOLD OUT] Friday, July 29. Cost is $35. Register by July 22 for the Faerie Spa.
Faerie Tea Party
Are you a fan of tea parties? Well, there’s nothing quite like the Faerie Tea Party at Minnetrista. Here, faeries of all ages will be ushered into the Bubble Garden for a formal tea party, complete with etiquette lessons. Faeries can also get creative while enjoying crafts, activities, music, and dancing. Cost is just $15. Register now, or by July 22, for the Faerie Tea Parties, which will be held July 30 from 10 a.m. to noon, or 1 to 3 p.m. Both of the tea parties have already sold out for 2016!
The Beetle and the Snail
You know the tale The Tortoise and the Hare. But what about The Beetle and the Snail? It’s a faerie funny retelling of Aesop’s classic tale of perseverance that will be presented for you all three nights during Faeries, Sprites, & Lights. Performances will be held by the Minnetrista Theatre Preserves. Showtimes are at 5:45, 6:30, 7:15, and 8:00 p.m.
Molly’s Magic Marketplace
Looking to extend your magical weekend experience? Visit Molly’s Magic Marketplace, open all three days during Faeries, Sprites, & Lights for all faerie related products. From wings and outfits, to crafts and activities, there’s a little bit of magic for everyone to enjoy. And don’t forget to visit Julie Scott, who will be signing copies of her new book The Dread Welsh Dragon at Molly’s Magic Marketplace.
End of the Night Parade
The Faerie Olympics Opening Ceremony begins at 9 p.m. every night. Because humans are not allowed to see or partake in Olympic festivities, they must gather with Minnetrista’s local faerie friends for the End of the Night parade. The parade, which begins under the performance tent, will be the Faerie Olympics Opening Ceremony and lead out of the magical wonderland, wrapping up this year’s event.These were just some of the events and activities that you can enjoy while attending Faeries, Sprites, & Lights at Minnetrista.
