Learn how to savor the freshness of summer on National Can-It-Forward Day

Second Annual National Can-It-Forward Day to be hosted at Minnetrista July 14 by Jarden Home Brands

Muncie, IN— Canning is a great way to get the most out of your fresh produce without using preservatives or unnecessary additives. With the resurgence of shopping local and eating fresh, the number of farmers markets across the country increased by nearly 20 percent in the past year, and home canning was identified by many as the top food trend of 2011.

On July 14, gather your family and friends and come to Minnetrista to experience the bounty of summer through home canning. Enjoy instructional canning and cooking demonstrations and more at Minnetrista from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. for the second annual National Can-It-Forward Day, hosted by Jarden Home Brands, makers of Ball® Brand home canning products. Also, visit Farmers Market at Minnetrista from 8 a.m.–noon on this day to stock up on fresh favorites for your canning recipes.

Those interested in participating in National Can-It-Forward Day can join the festivities and learn how to preserve the fresh foods they love in a number of ways. Minnetrista will have free canning demonstrations on July 14 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Watch a jammer in action and see how quick pickles can be made. Ask questions and get answers from Minnetrista and Ball® Brand canning experts. Visit Minnetrista to be a part of National Can-It-Forward Day and learn tips, tricks, and recipes first-hand from local canning and cooking experts.

Minnetrista embraces its legacy of canning and food preservation through cooking demonstrations and canning workshops and demonstrations throughout the year. Founded on the site of one of the original Ball family homes, Minnetrista’s history is rich in food preservation and home canning. Even today, Ball® products lead the way for consumers who want to enjoy fresh food year-round. The celebration of home canning does not end on July 14; there are lots of opportunities to learn about canning and home preservation at Minnetrista. Visitors can enjoy canning demonstrations the second Saturday of each month at Farmers Market at Minnetrista. Those interested in learning to preserve their own food can participate in canning workshops year-round; the next canning workshop is Tomāto, Tomäto on July 17. Participants will make their own spicy tomatoes using Italian or Mexican seasonings.
