Learn about the Civil War through letters from real soldiers in Away From Home

Muncie, IN— Take an emotional journey into the lives of American Civil War soldiers and the families they left behind in Minnetrista’s latest exhibit- Away From Home: Civil War Letters.

Experience the glory and the tragedy of the Civil War through letters from those who were there and the loved ones they left behind. Visitors journey through the Civil War as they listen to and read letters from soldiers and their families. View artifacts, photographs and real letters in this multifaceted, interactive exhibit.

In conjunction with this exhibit, Minnetrista Theatre Preserves will perform With Love, From Home, developed from historical correspondence between a soldier and his wife. Join the wife of a civil war soldier in this 20-minute theatre performance as she explores what it means to write a letter to an unknown destination and to merely hope that he is still alive to receive the letter.

Away From Home: Civil War Letters will be open June 23 through October 28. You can visit Minnetrista’s exhibits Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Admission is $5; Minnetrista members and children 3 and under are free. You can experience With Love, From Home on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2:30 p.m.
