A Glass Legacy
In 1887, the Ball family moved its glass manufacturing business from Buffalo, NY, to Muncie, IN, to take advantage of the abundance of recently discovered natural gas. Ball Brothers Glass Manufacturing Company became America’s best known and largest manufacturer of canning jars. One hundred years later, Minnetrista was established on the site of one of the Ball family homes. This exhibition celebrates East Central Indiana’s glass heritage.
Mission
Minnetrista, in partnership with The Marilyn K. Glick Center for Glass at Ball State University, will host its first cooperative juried glass show. This exhibition is focused on portraying the breadth and range of glass in contemporary contexts of craft, sculpture, and mixed media art. The juror will consider and select works that contain glass or are glass-related. We welcome work with a variety of styles and approaches. We encourage works in and about glass, ranging from decorative to experimental in approach. This exhibit is supported by a grant from the Art Alliance for Contemporary Glass (AACG).
Entry Requirements
The exhibition is open to all artists 18 years of age or older. All entries must contain glass or be glass-related. Artists may enter a maximum of three works. Entries must be original works, which have been completed within the past two years and not accepted previously for any juried exhibition at Minnetrista. No entry may exceed 50 pounds in weight or 24'' x 36'' x 35'' dimensions. Entries must be submitted ready to display. Entries with component parts must be sent ready to mount or fit into a display case with dimensions no larger than 24'' x 36'' x 35''.
