Camp Teacher Job Description

Purpose Develop, prepare for and teach curriculum for each camp class hired for.
 
QualificationsCandidate must be self-motivated, organized and able to effectively communicate with campers, parents, staff and volunteers.  Two or more year's education experience working with children is a plus. Candidate is expected to be professional at all times. Flexible working style is a must.   Teachers must support and practice imaginative, engaging and learner-centered education and be able to work individually and collaboratively with colleagues. Candidate must be able to walk at least 2 miles per day.
 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop content and activities for specified camp classes.
  • Provide camp director with a lesson plan of daily activities and field trips for all classes by April 30.
  • Provide camp director with supply lists by the following dates:
    Week 1 and 2 lists by May 28th and Week 3 and 4 lists by June 25th
  • Attend 3 orientation/training sessions:
    May 28th from 5-7pm; June 9 from 3-5pm; June 10 from 3-5pm
  • Facilitate week-long, half-day camp classes.
  • Manage class resources.
  • Maintain classroom control.
  • Ensure campers' safety during class activities.
  • Utilize help from camp volunteers.
  • Facilitate snack breaks.
  • Assist with opening activities each day.
  • Assist with camper pick up and/or drop off times.
  • Attend 3 program orientation meetings and 1 post camp meeting.
  • Fill out and return a Camp Minnetrista Evaluation, as well as a self evaluation
Working ConditionsTeachers will work in all public areas of Minnetrista's campus; this includes indoor and outdoor spaces.  Teachers are expected to facilitate each week-long class they are responsible for, including those days with unexpected weather, alternate lesson plans are suggested.  Camp Minnetrista shirts will be provided and should be worn daily.  Teacher will be evaluated by the education manager one time per class.  

Camp Dates and Classes 2010:

We are currently hiring for the camp classes below.  Teachers will be assigned classes through preference and best fit.

Week 1 (June 14-18)Stories to Tell
Grades 4-6; afternoon class
Learn the process of story telling by creating, writing and illustrating a book you make from scratch.
 
Week 2 (June 21-25)
Move It
Grades PreK-K; morning class
Observe the world around you and how things move. How do fish swim, how do frogs jump, how does the squirrel get to the tip top of a tree, how do butterflies fly? We'll ask these questions then go out to find the answers.
 
Week 4 (July 26-30)
Splish Splash
Grades 1-3; morning class     
Spend a week with an important, and fun, natural resource: water! Launch water balloons, make and use water-friendly toys, play water games, meet indigenous aquatic animals, explore Minnetrista's pond. It'll be a splash!
