Russell Sheep Company Diane and Paul Russell Products: Lamb Products (meat- legs, chops, brats, gyros, etc) When Diane and Paul Russell married, she brought the sheep, and he brought the farm. Now, thirty years later, the couple has joined the list of more than 40 vendors who make up Farmers Market at Minnetrista. Customers who visit the Russells on any given Saturday are guaranteed nothing less than fresh meat. "The young lamb we sell is better than what is available at grocery stores, where they often sell imported, older, less desirable meat," says Diane. | |
| Their selling menu has twelve types of lamb product, including some not found in retail stores—like breakfast sausage and brats, both made exclusively with lamb. Guests will see Diane and Paul spend a great deal of time answering questions about their lamb, occasionally giving samples to the curious visitors and talking about their favorite recipes. Diane says she and her husband enjoy the opportunity to buy and sell directly to customers. "There's nothing like selling in a direct market," Diane says. Diane and Paul are eager to strike up conversation with Farmers Market guests. Because they have "met a bunch of great people with interesting stories and recipes to tell," the Russell family even started a recipe exchange on their company Web site, www.russellsheepcompany.com. The couple says Farmers Market at Minnetrista has revitalized their company, which has been turned over to the youngest Russell, Jeremy, a Purdue student. "He is excited. He has a reason to learn and bring back his knowledge to our community. Not a lot of communities have farmers market opportunities like this one."
