Garden Path The Nature Area at Minnetrista
Once an abandoned gravel pit, the Nature Area at Minnetrista now features three representations of Indiana native habitat. Manmade ponds and shales, a woodland area featuring nine varieties of Indiana trees, and a tall grass prairie have encouraged wildlife to frequent the site.

Developed over five years beginning in 1999, the Nature Area was the result of collaboration between Minnetrista and Ball State University's College of Architecture and Planning, in addition to many community volunteers.

The Nature Area at Minnetrista is now open to the general public FREE of charge. Visitors can explore the pristine Nature Area consisting of a pond, a prairie and woodlands, Mon.-Sat., 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Sun., 11 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

Until recently, the Nature Area was used mainly for school tours and other scheduled programs. The site, which is not visible from the road, may still be somewhat unfamiliar to the public. The Nature Area is located just north of the cultural center, at the corner of Minnetrista Parkway and Centennial Avenue. Parking is available at the corner of Minnetrista Parkway and St. Joseph Street.
